Husite Engineering continually strives to be an environmentally friendly kirksite foundry operation.

One such way is our foam recycling initiative.  At peak operation, Husite can use up to fifty foam
foundry patterns per day.  This styrofoam does not break down naturally.  Foam that is thrown away
stays in landfills indefinitely, which poses a great problem for the environment.  To alleviate this
issue, Husite Engineering has partnered with a local recycling center to dispose of this foam.

Another environmental initiative Husite has taken is to re-crush used sand from our foundry molds.
While many other operations simply discard the old sand, Husite employs a mechanical system to
reclaim and reuse the sand.  At peak operation, this can save hundreds of thousands of pounds of
sand per year from simply being discarded.

A final environmental benefit of Husite's operation is the kirksite itself, though this is not necessarily
unique to Husite, By nature, kirksite is easily re-melted with just a 5% loss rate.  This not only
saves customers money buying new material, it also reduces waste by enabling old tools to easily
be re-melted for casting into new tools.

Husite Engineering's management team is thoroughly committed to reducing waste generation.  We
constantly look for ways to be an environmentally sustainable foundry operation.  If you have any
questions about these efforts, please call Paul Huston at (248)588-0337, or E-mail him at
